My passion for jewelry started as a little girl as I watched my grandparents work in their store of 25 years - Gregory Jewelers located here in Newton. I loved to go to work with my mom , I loved following behind them and watching them help customers . As I grew older I started learning to engrave , wrap presents & run errands for them. I loved learning about the different gemstones and history of them . As I grew up I helped more around the store and my dream was one day I would take it over but circumstances happened and when I was in high school they sold the jewelry business. I went in to school pursuing nursing but that was not my passion, when I got the phone call from a company that had sold jewelry to my grandparents asked me to come work at the Trade show when he was not in the area , so I jumped at the chance. Then later I was ask to manage his showroom in Virginia-so I left nursing school and moved to Virginia where I worked as a sales rep selling wholesale to jewelry stores and doing trade shows. I worked there for about three years then moved to Charlotte where I managed a manufacture where we made designed and casted jewelry for jewelry stores. I loved seeing all the different steps that were involved in creating a beautiful piece of jewelry. While I was working in Charlotte, my mom called and said the building my grandparents had was for rent so I made some phone calls and in February 6 th 1996 I opened Dana's Fine Jewelry in Downtown Newton , I was only 24 and scared to death but I was so determined to at least try , I didn't want to be setting in a rocking chair one day wondering what if .
